If you were looking for stupidity, the infamous “Idol” group night delivered that in spades. As for talent . . . well, not so much.
We see the wannabes split off into groups and begin rehearsing, and the first 20 minutes of the show focuses on “Team Compromise” and “Team Diva,” mainly because members of each team don’t get along with each other and behave like bratty idiots. In short: a complete waste of airtime and utter nonsense that doesn’t deserve another word written about it.
In fact, it’s not until the show hits the 30-minute mark that we FINALLY get to the auditions. Simon says, just to make things clear, that anybody who forgets the lyrics will be automatically cut.
We saw the good, bad and ugly. Some teams were phenomenal, some merely good, some horrendous, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking at my watch for most of the episode wondering when it would ever end.
Once again, BFFs’ Jamar and Danny stole the show. Danny Goeky is definitely gonna be one to watch. Team Diva (an unholy amalgam of Bikini Girl, Hippie Chick Rose Flack and two other women) absolutely imploded, thanks to Bikini Girl's refusal to practice. Whatever. At least this brought about her demise. If we ever see her again, I'm assuming it will be in the sticky pages of Maxim magazine.
But honestly, they need to can these group auditions. The only point seems to be creating conflict between the contestants, which only seems to work with the really stupid ones. And I don’t want to watch stupid people fighting over stupid things. Isn’t that why we have “Big Brother”?
Another complaint: There was so much cutting back and forth between different groups singing the same song that it was tough to keep track of who was cut and who wasn't. I had to rewind to see that it was indeed Norman Gentle (almost unrecognizable without the wacky get-up) who got through. But the Osmond kid doesn't make the cut. No worries, I'm sure there are plenty more Osmonds to audition next season.
Best moment in the show: Axed contestant Ryan Pinkston accusing Paula of having “evil in her eyes.” Followed by a slo-mo shot of Paula with FX turning her eyes all read and satanic. We’ve seen crazy Paula, slurring Paula, wacky Paula — now meet Evil Paula!
"I just wish everyone would drop the drama and just focus," said one contestant. "This is music." A message I hope the “Idol” producers heed, because this episode was almost entirely a waste of time.

Happy to see Bikini Girl get booted...
...but I'm sorry to see Rose go. Tough break for a sweet girl to be saddled with that bimbo. The worst injustice of the night had to be the fact that Tatiana's group was NOT eliminated. Again, did those judges hear something we didn't?
And I had to laugh at Ryan Pinkston. No, Ryan, Paula is not evil (loopy, yes -- evil, no!). It's just that you suck and you forgot the words. How that makes Paula evil is beyond my understanding.
I agree with you that these group nights have to stop. I guess the only good reason would be to test each contestant's ability to work with other people. It sure isn't because they're priming them for those abysmal group numbers throughout the run of the season!!! I'm just waiting for them to start flooding the stage to have them perform Donny & Marie-style ice skating follies while singing some horrific showtune from Starlight Express. Then I'm gone, for sure.
Now we have another drama queen?
My gosh, the new female idol judge......what's her name......is constantly looking at the camera....does she watch herself on a monitor? Get over yourself woman! That is very distracting and you're making a mockery of the show, as is Paula and her childish ways and Randy who wants to please EVERYONE....stand on your own two feet Randy! As for Simon.....I've said it every year......LISTEN TO HIM....he knows what he's talking about!!!!! Good grief.....if it's 'planned show stuff' your're doing, it isn't working! Get real! This is a singing contest!!!! I'm sure we'd ALL like to see and hear the contestants perform, NOT watch some of the judges perform!
