Among all the fictional characters and deceased celebrities who received votes in New York's recent mayoral election, the clear winner was — drumroll please — Homer Simpson's boss, Montgomery Burns.
If elected, Mr. Burns promised to sell Staten Island to New Jersey and set up a nuclear power plant in Williamsburg, while promising to set up "New Yorker-free zones" within Manhattan so tourists won't have to deal with those pesky locals while taking in the matinee of "Phantom of the Opera."
Although Mike Bloomberg was ultimately re-elected, Burns did manage to beat out a wide swath of famous names, including Sleeping Beauty, Mickey Mouse, Adolf Hitler, Teddy Roosevelt, Alfred E. Neuman and Abraham Lincoln.
