Can't say I'm particularly surprised by ABC's announcement that it was axing "Ugly Betty."
I kind of enjoyed the first couple of seasons, but got bored after that. Once I noticed I had eight or nine episodes piled up on the DVR — and no interest in ever watching them — I figured it was time to pull the plug.
Of course, it didn't help that ABC kept moving the show from timeslot to timeslot, and dumping it on Friday nights this season was a pretty clear indication of the network's intentions to kill it off. When it was moved to Wednesdays, nobody seemed to notice, and the ratings have been abysmal.
According to an ABC statement:"We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell."
Translation: "Don't let the door hit you on your way out."
Usually I have an opinion one way or another as to a show's cancellation, but with respect to "Ugly Betty," the best I can muster up is "Meh."
