Jesse Giddings has certainly packed a lot into his young life thus far; having played in various bands, managed concert venues and even strolled down the odd catwalk or two as a male model.

Now, the 25 year old Langley native can add an even more sought-after role to his resume after landing his dream gig as the Much Music’s newest VJ.

“Growing up in Langley, I used to play in a band and that was something that I was always passionate about,” Giddings tells me.
“It was always the idea that MuchMusic would be the dream job because it involves everything I want to do; connecting with people across the country, going to shows and connecting with artists there, and being surrounded by good music. It was always the dream job but it was a long time in me getting here.”

Giddings hit the life trifecta following a move east a year ago, in the hope of pursuing the dream.

After learning the music channel was holding an open call, Giddings was among the thousand plus hopefuls to take the plunge, persevering after more than nine months of auditions, call backs and interviews before landing the plum gig.

“After pestering them enough, they decided to give me the job,” he says with a laugh. “Having always had a passion for people and connecting with them, that part of the job feels like a perfect fit and felt natural, but I had a lot to learn and still do. I didn’t come with a lot of experience interviewing people so that’s something I’m continuing to work on and being challenged by, but I’m looking forward to that part of the job.”

“Honestly, I miss everything from the West Coast,” he says. Coming from Langley, I used to go to White Rock all the time and go skim-boarding there; I’d go surfing every other weekend down the Washington Coast; go hiking up Cypress and Grouse; snowshoeing and snowboarding up in Whistler in the winter - even strolling through Stanley Park – that’s what I miss. I’m looking forward to seeing what Toronto has to offer, but I’ll definitely miss Vancouver.”

I told you recently about the phenomenal success of Susan Boyle’s debut album and the global sensation that she’s since become.
In fact, the Scottish lass continues to amaze the musical world with her staggering appeal internationally, while on this side of the Atlantic, she’s outselling such musical heavyweights as 50 Cent’s Before I Self-Destruct CD by some 600,000 copies - in the US alone.
Naturally – and perhaps in an effort to keep pace sales-wise – Fiddy has jumped on the Boyle Bandwagon and says he even wants to collaborate with her.

In an interview with London’s Daily Mail, the rapper says, “I got to get her on a track, for real. We’d make a hit. She’s got an amazing voice…..and together we’d get everyone dancing. I’m always looking to do something new and she’s cool, so I’ll ask somebody to let her know. She’s hot right now”.

No kidding!

Another British tabloid is claiming that the First Lady of so-called Frop (Frumpish-pop) has been invited to perform at the White House in front of the President and First Lady Michelle Obama on her birthday January 17.

Just eight months ago, the 48 year old Boyle was living a life of total anonymity with her cats in Blackburn, Scotland.

Meantime, her meteoric rise to superstardom via Britain’s Got Talent was the most popular video on You Tube this past year, garnering well over 100 million views and far surpassing its next closet competitor. According to the popular video-sharing site, David after Dentist; a video of an anesthetized seven year old boy following a visit to the dentist was second with 37 million views while Minnesotan couple’s JK Wedding Entrance Dance was the third most-viewed with 33 million hits.
This marked the first year that You Tube released a most-watched video list alongside a compilation of the fastest-rising search terms by their parent company Google.

To no one’s surprise, the most-searched enquiries seemingly kept pace with the news of any particular time over the past twelve months.
The word ‘inauguration’ became the most-searched in January around the time of the swearing in of Barack Obama as US President. In April, the name Susan Boyle was the most-Googled, while Michael Jackson overtook everything in June, following his sudden passing.
The fastest-rising search enquiry of late has been Tiger Woods, following the golfer’s seemingly endless parade of transgressions off the links.
