24
9 p.m., Global & Fox
What’s up with 24 this season? Aside from the occasional shocking, jarring moment — usually involving shell-shocked FBI agent Renee Walker (Annie Wersching) slicing into somebody with a sharp implement — season eight has so far been a big ol’ snooze. Meanwhile, there’s the pointless subplot featuring Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff and her sleazy ex-boyfriend, while ever-loyal Chloe O’Brien (Mary Lynn Rajskub) has been reduced to pouting like a petulant eight-year-old whenever someone assigns her an anti-terror task. But we’re still hanging in there, now that Jack Bauer has been reinstated at CTU and entrusted with heading off a group of nasty terrorists who want to detonate a nuclear explosion in the middle of New York City, which would necessitate President Taylor (Cherry Jones) declaring war on Kamistan (don’t check the atlas, it’s not a real country).
Daily Planet
4 p.m. & 8 p.m., Discovery
We wouldn’t describe Daily Planet as one of the wildest shows on TV, but this week the science show gets to show its rowdy side, with hosts Jay Ingram and Ziya Tong exploring the scientific side of some of the craziest sports out there, including freebording (which is like snowboarding, but with pavement instead of snow).
My Life as Liz
7 p.m. & 10 p.m.,
MTV Canada
Meet Liz Lee, a quirky alterna-hipster teen who, unfortunately for her, lives in a totally uncool town in Texas. Lest you think this is a reality show, it’s not — although Liz is a real person, not an actress. In fact, this strange hybrid of scripted and reality television combines documentary-style footage with clearly scripted segments. While this may make it difficult to tell what’s real and what’s not, it’s always entertaining.
Chuck
8 p.m., NBC
Casey is called to help out his old commander (guest star Robert Patrick) on a mission, but Chuck and Sarah need to jump in and bail him out when when things take a wrong turn.
GTTV Presents God of War III:
Last Titan Standing
8:38 p.m., Spike
Video-game junkies have been frothing at the mouth waiting for the third instalment of the God of War series, in which an ancient warrior gets to beat all manner of mythological monsters into bloody pulps, and this special provides a preview of the mayhem that will be keeping them glued to the Xbox for weeks to come.
Secret Diary of a Call Girl
9 p.m., MC1
The day-to-day adventures of high-end London call girl Belle de Jour (you’re free to smirk) are coming to an end, at least for viewers. The series based on the British bestseller The Intimate Adventures of a London Call Girl wraps up tonight with Bambi and Byron’s wedding. Meanwhile, Belle (played by Doctor Who’s Billie Piper) struggles with the idea of leaving Duncan for weeks on end for a client in the Maldives, until she discovers his unpleasant side. Hey, at least it will make for great material in her book!
